Team Member Spotlight: Diego Mendia

Diego Mendia is a Multi-Unit General Manager for Newark Airport, where he manages Villa Fresh Italian Kitchen, Salsarita’s, and the upcoming Tony + Benny’s and Carlo’s Bakery. Diego started with VRG eleven years ago as a dishwasher and has worked his way up to a Multi-Unit General Manager. Diego cannot thank VRG enough for all the opportunities provided to him based on his hard work, family hospitality, integrity, innovation, successes and passion.

It is Diego’s passion for this business that provides his drive and energy to maximize his successes. Diego cannot speak enough praise for his mentor, Tony Scotti, Executive Vice President of the East Division explaining that it has been Tony who has continually been his role model since he started with VRG over 10 years ago. Diego is quick to share that, "I grew up with this company. It was my first full time job." He explains that has worked at many different VRG locations, which has allowed him the chance to learn, learn, learn!

Diego is a great listener and gives 100% to whatever he is doing – which makes him a fantastic manager. He prides himself on his Teams and loves that they share the same passion and strive for the same goals. He feels that cross-training is one of the keys to his success – he feels that it is essential for each Team Member to learn each other’s tasks to ensure a smooth-running operation. We wish Diego continued success and thank him for his dedication!
