Team Member Spotlight: Roxanne Lapena

As we end Women’s History Month, we are shining a spotlight on Roxanne Lapena, Manager at Office Tavern Grill, Ridgewood, NJ. When she came to VRG, Roxanne was not looking for a change, she was recruited because of her culinary school education, and her proven restaurant experience in different venues. Through these experiences, she developed the value of Guest service and the importance of building and cultivating an awesome team! Face Mask on or off, Roxanne believes that her goal as a leader is to spread kindness throughout the world, and to treat people fairly and with respect. She knows Guests come to the restaurant for the experience, and many times (especially over this last pandemic year), to get away from the adversity going on in the world. Roxanne has gained an increased respect for the industry, as we navigate social distancing precautions and safety efforts, and still provide an exceptional and warm experience to our Guests.

Roxanne believes her role is to coach her staff to treat Guests the way they would want to be treated when they are visiting a restaurant. Her work ethic comes from her family and her Mother telling her, “you can be anything you want to be”.

Talking to her younger self, Roxanne would say … "As a female in a leadership role, the two pieces of advice I have is to never let anyone or anything hold you back from your dreams, and to always keep that passion for what you do burning inside of you. There is greatness in every girl and woman out there waiting to be shown to the world. But most importantly, be kind to yourself along the way and remember why you chose the career path you did."

Roxanne likes the camaraderie at the restaurant and the trust her manager(s) have in her; as well as her ability to allow her team to grow, try new things and provide them a career path to follow.
